Second Subterranean War

By: Kevin Alder Rux

It was inevitable from the end of the First Subterranean War that there would be a second. And the first such war was probably inevitable after APEX-dominated India drove the Mongols out of the Middle East and North Africa and established a colonial hegemony in that region.

The leaders of APEX had no idea of the extent of the vast network of underground tunnels that riddled that region. Geologists believe that those regions once sat atop a vast ocean of natural petroleum, which was welled to exhaustion sometime around 20,000 B.C. by industrious time travelers from somewhere upstream (futurologists believe this must be a date later than 2900 A.D.). Thus, they underestimated the population and resources available to the region's dwellers by at least an order of magnitude, and as those regions threw off the Indian occupiers, the involvement of APEX became public knowledge, leading to that organizations demise and the creation of ZENITH from several of it's participants as well as the 'Subterranean' leader Harvey Rupert Nemo.

The Second Subterranean War commensed after H. Nemo assumed a leadership role in ZENITH, launching submarine navies from underwarer ports and digging invasion tunnels into multiple continents in an effort to destroy the Mongolian Consortium and achieve world dominance in general. The Subterranean's alliance with Maztlan proved their downfall, as their attacks drew Canada into the war, setting the stage for the Tight Pants Uprising.
